Flourish Cultural Arts Center, located in Nanaimo, aims to uplift neurodiverse youth. Created in third-year studio, this project envisions a calm, inclusive, and sensory-aware environment.
Flourish is located on Bowen Road in Nanaimo, BC, a central and accessible area with nearby transit, parking, schools, and community services that support families and youth.
Designed as a cultural arts centre for neurodiverse youth (particularly those with ASD), the space prioritizes safety, inclusivity, and sensory comfort. Inspired by organic, nature-based forms, the design incorporates gentle curves, calming colours, and natural materials to create a welcoming and fluid environment. Thoughtful elements such as diffused natural light, acoustic treatments, flexible layouts, and varied seating support diverse sensory needs, allowing users to feel comfortable, connected, and empowered within the space.
